Vestlandet 2019: Jeudi/Thursday 18.07.2019. Cullivoe

Jeudi 18 juillet 2019.

Enfin une belle journée. Nous découvrons l’ile de Fetlar sous le soleil, hier on n’a pas vu grand-chose. Nous allons voir le vieux manoir du Lord (celui qui chassait ses paysans, pas très sympathique le bonhomme), bien mal en point. Puis nous partons, dernière étape avant Cullivoe (et c’est avec un U, pas Collivoe comme je l’ai écrit avant). Beau temps, mer calme mais courant toujours présent mais pas fort. Andrew nous a suivi par Marine Traffic et nous attend dans le port de Cullivoe. Ce port est actif, surtout pour recevoir et envoyer plus loin les saumons d’élevage. Il nous dit que six camions partent chaque jour d’ici, chargés de saumons. Nous prenons du diésel et repartons vers la petite marina où il a son bateau « White Lady ». Dans le guide, cette marina n’est pas conseillée car trop peu profonde. Mais Andrew est sûr que ce sera assez profond pour Maja, juste à côté de White Lady, mais il faut arriver à marée haute ou presque haute. Il va en voiture à son bateau et nous y attend. Nous allons doucement et tout se passe bien, nous nous amarrons sur White Lady. Andrew repart, lui et Linsey ont une journée bien chargée : demain, un mariage sera célébré à Cullivoe et tout le village participe aux préparatifs. Mais ils ont la gentillesse de nous inviter ce soir à diner, avec leur famille. Nous déjeunons sur Maja et allons faire notre tour en vélo quotidien. Prairies, moutons, fleurs sauvages, belle vue, mais cette fois sous le soleil. Et nous avons trop chaud, emmitouflés que nous sommes, les locaux sont en T-shirts, il fait 17 ⁰. Nous allons chez Andrew et Linsey, retrouvons Barry que nous avions rencontré en juillet 2014 sur le Canal Calédonien et faisons connaissance avec leurs deux autres enfants adultes. Ils nous reçoivent avec beaucoup de gentillesse et nous espérons pouvoir leur rendre cela un jour en Norvège. Le mouton est excellent, il a cuit au four depuis 11 heures ce matin et fond dans la bouche. Tout le monde est revenu ici pour assister au mariage demain, 250 personnes sont invitées au repas et encore plus à la « party » en soirée, et la fête dure deux jours !

Finally a beautiful day. We discover the island of Fetlar under the sun, yesterday we did not see much. We are going to see the old manor of the Lord (the one who evicted his tenants, not a very nice man), which is in bad shape. Then we leave, last step before Cullivoe (and it's with a U, not Collivoe as I wrote before). Good weather, calm sea but current always present but not strong. Andrew is following us by Marine Traffic and is waiting for us in the port of Cullivoe. This port is active, especially to receive and send further farmed salmon. He tells us that six trucks leave each day from here loaded with salmon. We take diesel and go to the small marina where he has his yacht "White Lady". In the guide, this marina is not recommended because it’s too shallow. But Andrew is sure it will be deep enough for Maja, right next to White Lady, but we have to get in at high tide or almost high. He goes by car to his boat and is waiting for us there. We go slowly and all goes well, we moor on White Lady. Andrew leaves, he and Linsey have a busy day: tomorrow, a wedding will be celebrated in Cullivoe and the whole village participates in the preparations. But they are kind enough to invite us tonight for dinner with their family. We have lunch on Maja and go for our daily ride. Meadows, sheep, wild flowers, beautiful view, but this time under the sun. And we are too hot, with our sweater and windbreaker, the locals are in T-shirts, it's 17 ⁰. We go to Andrew and Linsey, meet again Barry whom we met in July 2014 on the Caledonian Canal and get to know their two other adult children. They receive us with great kindness and we hope to be able to return this in Norway one day. The mutton is excellent, it has been in the oven since 11 am and melts in the mouth. Everyone came back here to attend the wedding tomorrow, 250 people are invited to the meal and even more to the party in the evening, and the celebration will last two days!
